The SAP Gateway process exists one for each SAP instance. It’s activated automatically when an instance is started. Gateway Service perform the following tasks:
- Communication between different SAP Systems.
- Remote Function Call (RFC)
- Common Programming Interface for Communication (CPIC)
- Connection of external systems such as EDI systems, external fax devices
If your SAP system consists of many instances (SAP Central Instance and several SAP Dialog Instance), it will be important to regularly monitor the SAP Gateway as part of daily System Monitoring in your SAP system.
1. You can call sap monitoring transaction SMGW or from menu below.

2. It will bring you to the initial screen of sap gateway monitoring

3. You can double click one item to see more detail System Information for the connection

4. From the initial screen of sap gateway monitoring (step no. 2) Goto –> Logged on clients to see the clients terminal that login to the gateway server.

5. You can delete the connection to terminate the client
6. Double click to see detail System Information for client connection.

7. From the initial screen of sap gateway monitoring (step no. 2) Goto -> Remote Gateways to see other Gateway in your SAP System.

Choose Delete to terminate remote connection.
8. From the initial screen of sap gateway monitoring (step no. 2) Goto -> Active Connection –> Interrupt Connection to terminate connected client.

9. From the initial screen of sap gateway monitoring (step no. 2) Goto -> Work Process to monitor Gateway Workprocess.
